For the main Krakow train station, look for Kraków Główny on your rail ticket. Its current passenger hall is below the platforms, with several approaches rather than one main street doorway. Choose your exit by the address you need next. For departure, use the live display for your train rather than a platform saved from an earlier trip.

PKP's passenger page gives the station address as Pawia 5a and describes approaches through Galeria Krakowska, from Bosacka and from the tram tunnel. Station facts were checked October 2026. The historic station building is a useful landmark, but it is not the whole present-day departure hall.

Use Kraków Główny as the main rail-station name and choose the exit for your next address. Read the service number and live board before departure. Storage, access help and onward tickets need separate checks.

Identify the station and exits

Match the name on the ticket before travelling to the station. Kraków Główny is the main station discussed here. Kraków Airport is the airport's rail stop, not another entrance to Główny. Other Krakow station names refer to other stops. A ticket headed simply “Krakow” in an app search needs a closer look before you decide where to go.

On arrival, read your next address before choosing an exit. The Old Town core lies southwest of the main rail complex on the municipal map. Bosacka is the coach-station side. The shopping-centre side leads toward Pawia. These broad directions help orient you; they do not replace the signs for an open route on the day.

If you are meeting someone, choose a named point that both of you can find. “Outside the station” is too vague where several levels and approaches exist. Agree the exit or meeting area and have a way to contact each other. If a driver supplies a pickup point, use that instruction rather than assuming every car waits at the same door.

The hero photograph shows the Bosacka-side rail entrance as seen from the coach station in December 2022. It is a recognition image, not a report of current adverts, lighting or weather. Use the current station name and signage as your guide. A photo of the old building would answer a different question from how to reach today's platforms.

For arrival, gather your bags before leaving the train and check the platform signs. Find the route to the passenger hall or your next service. Pause to work out which side of the complex you need before continuing through a passage. It is easier to change course at that point than after reaching a street with heavy luggage.

If a bag is awkward, choose the signed lift route where available rather than struggling on steps. PKP publishes station access information, but that does not certify that every lift is working at your arrival time. Ask staff if the expected route is unavailable. Do not improvise a route across service areas or tracks to shorten the walk.

For departure, find your train by its number and scheduled time. The board may show the train's final destination rather than the intermediate station printed on your ticket. Cross-check those details before going to a platform. If two services leave close together, the train number is a better safeguard than following a crowd with bags.

Allow time for your own pace, bags and ticket needs. There is no single safe “arrive this many minutes before” rule for all passengers. Someone with a reservation already saved has different needs from someone buying at a desk. A traveller who has arranged boarding help may have a specific meeting time. Use that agreement as a fixed part of the plan.

Keep the rail ticket accessible without a live internet connection where the operator supports that format. Check whether the ticket needs an identity document or a concession document. Have those ready before inspection. A payment receipt or itinerary is not automatically the travel ticket, so identify the actual ticket document in your email or app.

Tickets and live departure information

Use the train operator for the fare and conditions of the journey you intend to make. Different operators sell different products, and a station's ticket facilities do not make every ticket valid on every train. Read the operator name and service restrictions. A city tram ticket is not a general rail pass.

Portal Pasażera is the rail infrastructure passenger portal for checking journeys and station departures. Use the travel date and exact station names. Recheck near departure for changes, then confirm against the board at the station. A timetable result helps you plan; it is not a reserved place or proof that you have paid.

If you need a ticket desk, PKP's station page lists ticket facilities and machines. Their existence does not guarantee a short queue or a particular payment method at the moment you arrive. Leave yourself a way to ask for help. If a machine's language or product choice is unclear, stop and confirm rather than buying something solely because its destination looks familiar.

For a reserved longer-distance train, look at the carriage and seat fields as well as the service. Boarding the correct train is only the first step. Check the carriage signs before moving along the platform with bags. If the train layout differs from what you expected, ask the conductor or staff. Do not assume another passenger's place is free for the full journey.

For a delay or missed connection, use the operator's current instructions. Whether a ticket can be used on another departure depends on its terms and the circumstances. We have not supplied a general rebooking promise. Keep the ticket and delay information, and ask before taking a service that may require a different ticket or reservation.

Luggage and station facilities

PKP lists luggage lockers at Kraków Główny. Locker size, available capacity and the current tariff are not established by this guide. If storage is essential to your day, check those details before making a fixed sightseeing booking. An advertised facility is not a guarantee that a space will be empty when you arrive.

Think about what you will need before closing a locker. Keep your ticket, medicine and any entry documents with you. Make a note of where the storage is in relation to the exit you will use. Read the retrieval and payment instructions at the facility. A sightseeing loop should finish with enough margin to collect the bag and reach the train.

The station page lists toilets and commercial services. Published access hours differ within the page for parts of the retail passages, so we have not given one definitive overnight shopping-route cutoff. The station and a shop inside the complex are not the same service. Check a late-night route with staff rather than counting on every shop passage remaining available.

Food or a drink stop can be useful, but decide what is essential before you settle in. First identify your train and any change to the platform. Then choose a break you can leave in time. Keep bags within reach while checking an app or menu. If you need water, use a recognised supply point or buy it; a station building does not make every tap a drinking-water outlet.

PKP publishes a separate station accessibility record. Consult it for the route you need, and contact your operator about help boarding the train. Those are related but separate tasks. A lift to the platform does not by itself settle the step or gap into a particular train.

Describe the help you need in terms of the actual journey. Give the date, service and stations, then ask where and when to meet. Check the operator's notice period directly rather than relying on a general travel article. Save the reply. If plans change, update the request so staff are not waiting for a service you no longer intend to use.

Walk or ride to Old Town

Walking can suit a visitor with light bags who is staying in or near the northern core. Start by finding the right exit, then use a street map to your accommodation entrance. The central square and a hotel on its far side are different destinations. We have not supplied a fixed station-to-room walking time that ignores your exit, crossing waits or pace.

If your room is south of the square or you have heavy bags, compare a ride with the full walk. Use current public transport information for the exact stop and direction. A stop marked with the station's name may be on a different level from your arrival route. Leave time to find it and check how to buy or validate the ticket.

ZTP's ticket guidance is the authority for municipal ticket scope. Its purchase guidance explains validation and app use. Paper and mobile products do not all work in the same way. Prepare the correct ticket before treating a short tram ride as a simple extension of your rail journey.

For a taxi or booked transfer, agree the exact pickup point and destination address. A driver may use a designated level or meeting place within the complex. Check the arrangement through the provider you booked. Do not assume a vehicle waiting nearby is that service. Ask for the price or fare method before starting if it has not already been confirmed.

If you have not booked a room yet, our hotel comparison includes station-side options as well as a property inside the core. The area guide helps decide which is useful for your whole stay. A convenient arrival is one factor; your evening route and the room's access can matter just as much.

Airport and excursion connections

For the airport, the official Krakow Airport rail page identifies the Koleje Małopolskie service connecting the airport and Kraków Główny. Check the current timetable for the travel date. Our airport-to-city guide compares rail with other ways to reach a room after landing.

On the return trip, choose a service that reaches the airport with the time required by your airline and your own baggage needs. A planned rail arrival is not the same as being at the check-in desk. Leave room for the path from the rail stop to the terminal. No last-train or journey-time promise is made here.

Wieliczka is another relevant rail destination, but read the stop name for the route you want. A train connection does not include a mine visit. Check your separately booked meeting point and admission time before choosing the service. The same applies to other excursions: their departure point may be somewhere else in the city, even if their title says “from Krakow”.

An arrival day is a poor place for an inflexible distant booking if you have no margin for delays. Consider whether you can move it to a later day. If you keep it on arrival day, know the change terms and what happens if you miss the meeting. The railway station cannot resolve a separate tour operator's booking conditions for you.

Sources and checks

Station layout and listed facilities come from PKP's passenger and access pages, checked October 2026. The municipal map supplies the broad position of the old core. Live rail planning belongs to Portal Pasażera and the relevant operator. The airport page supplies the airport rail connection, while ZTP governs municipal ticket use.

Platform allocation, locker capacity, current lift operation and a particular train's fare remain date- or journey-specific. They have not been invented to fill gaps in the station record. Use our travel tips as a final document and arrival check. Then keep the day's live information ahead of an old screenshot.

FAQ

Is Kraków Główny the main station?

Yes, it is the main station covered in this guide. Match that exact name to your ticket. Kraków Airport and other city stops are different stations.

Is the old station building where I catch the train?

The current passenger hall is below the platforms. Follow signs for the live station and your service rather than using the historic building as the sole entrance reference.

Can I leave luggage there?

PKP lists lockers, but this guide does not establish their size, current tariff or available spaces. Check those details if storage is essential to a booked visit.

Can I walk into Old Town?

The old core lies near the station complex, and walking may suit your route. Check your exit and exact destination, especially with bags or access needs. No universal station-to-hotel time applies.

Are platforms fixed for each route?

Use the live departure information for the specific train. A platform used on a past journey is not a reliable instruction for your next departure.
